Student Electives
Our clinic hosts many visiting students throughout the academic year. We offer two student electives: a family medicine clerkship and a family medicine sub-internship. Applicants must be third or fourth year medical students affiliated with an accredited medical school. Their school must provide malpractice coverage while on away rotations. Students need to be in good standing with their school and submit a completed application form and $25 application fee at least one month prior to the rotation date. Proof of updated immunizations is also required. We limit ourselves to three students at a time to guarantee a quality educational experience. Please apply early to ensure rotation availability.
The four-week clerkship is open to third and fourth year medical students interested in doing a primarily clinical rotation. Students are offered excellent outpatient experience in the clinic and may precept their patients with either the attending physicians or upper level residents. Students may choose to spend one week with the inpatient medicine team as part of their experience. Course length can be adjusted to meet student needs.
The sub-internship is offered to fourth year students only. Students manage patients as an intern on the inpatient medicine service for two weeks and participate in outpatient care for two weeks. They are expected to take call with an intern once weekly while on the inpatient service, and students give one noon conference lecture/case presentation on a topic of their choice at some point during the rotation. If obstetrical experience is desired, some involvement in deliveries may be available.
These electives provide an excellent opportunity to check out the program and life in Klamath Falls. Housing accommodations with residents or faculty may be available.
