Street/Mobile Medicine

Cascades East is committed to bringing comprehensive family medicine beyond the walls of the clinic. Through our growing Street Medicine and Mobile Medicine programs, residents provide relationship-centered care to patients experiencing homelessness and other barriers to traditional healthcare throughout rural Klamath County. Residents gain hands-on experience in outreach medicine, wound care, chronic disease management, risk reduction, care coordination, and navigating the social factors that affect health.

Street and Mobile Medicine is integrated into continuity clinic throughout all three years of residency, giving residents longitudinal experience caring for patients in nontraditional settings and building relationships over time. Residents interested in developing additional expertise can pursue more in-depth involvement through elective experiences, community partnerships, and program development.

Our program is supported by the Street Medicine Institute Seed Grant and Rural Health Transformation funding. As members of the Street Medicine Institute and Cascadia Street Medicine Alliance, we collaborate with programs regionally and nationally to develop curriculum, share best practices, and advance street medicine education.

For our residents, this work is an opportunity to experience family medicine at its most fundamental: meeting patients where they are, building trust, reducing barriers to care, and becoming physicians equipped to improve the health of the communities they serve.
