Surgical Obstetrics

Residents are given the opportunity to tailor their learning settings in the second and third year. As a result, residents can choose to use 4 weeks of their elective time to participate in the Cascades East surgical obstetrics training program.

Our surgical obstetrics program typically begins toward the end of second year. When second and third year residents opt into the trauma training program, we begin to carry the c-section pager. We can do both scheduled and emergent sections, depending on the situation and schedule. Our surgical obstetric residents continue our care throughout their patient’s hospital stay and beyond. It is a program that is typically limited to 1-2 residents per year and graduates have ranged from 30-74 Primary C-sections.

Depending on the practice destination, perspective and experience of our surgical obstetric residents, approximately half of our participant residents elect to pursue an obstetric medicine fellowship.
